Alice Compton Stevens died on March 28, 2023, after a brief stay in hospice care.

A memorial service will be held at Lunn's Funeral Home chapel on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 5:00 PM.  Alice will be laid to rest at Fort Sill Post Cemetery next to her husband, Francis "Steve" Stevens.

Alice was born Alice Marie Compton in Albert, Oklahoma on January 7, 1930.  She was the seventh child of eight.  Alice grew up on the family farm in Oklahoma.  She was class valedictorian of Oney High School.  She attended Southwest Institute of Technology from 1947-1948.  At age 40, she went back to finish her Bachelors degree at Midwestern State University.  She graduated summa cum laude in August 1973.  She later pursued a Masters degree in criminal justice at Sam Houston State University where she maintained a 4.0 GPA.

Alice married Francis J. "Steve" Stevens on January 27, 1951.  She was a stay-at-home mom while Steve pursued a career as a pilot for the US Army.  She filled her time nurturing their six children and volunteering with the Red Cross.

When she returned to the workforce, she worked at the North Texas State Hospital from 1967-1969.  She worked as the Executive Director of the Wichita County Council on Alcoholism from 1969-1970.  From 1974-1979, she worked as a juvenile probation officer and then as supervisor of juvenile probation.  In 1980 she became the Executive Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Wichita County.  With the help of the Board of Directors, she was instrumental in establishing that agency in Wichita County.

Alice loved helping people.  She also enjoyed traveling the country in her RV, dancing, singing, and spelunking.  She was an adventurer.

Alice is survived by her children, Mary Catherine Stevens (of Berkeley, CA), Joseph Francis Stevens (of Blanco, TX), Deborah Ann Stevens and her husband, Gary Duane Allmand (of Wichita Falls, TX), Lisa Marie Manning (of Wichita Falls, TX), Donna Louise Stevens (of Austin, TX), Rita Jean Stevens (of Wichita Falls, TX), and grandchildren, Brynne Marie Duty and wife, Megan Kenny, Brian Allmand, Kay Allmand and  husband Ryan Schabach, and great-grandchildren, Connor Kenny and JR Allmand.
