Barbara Jane York, 87, of Wichita Falls, passed away on the evening of April 6, 2021 following complications from a stroke. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas with Scotte Clark officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Barbara Jane was born on October 14, 1933, the only child, of the late Robert E. Bains and Dora Seright Bains in Olney, TX. Barbara met William T. "Bill" York, the love of her life, in Olney during their years at Olney High School. They later married on June 9, 1952. Barbara would go on to organize and plan their high school class reunions for nearly 60 years. The couple gave birth to son William, Jr., "Little Bill" in 1955, and daughter Robin Elizabeth in 1957, both in Olney. Bill's work with Texaco eventually led them to Wichita Falls.

Barbara's favorite color was yellow, and it was certainly fitting of her personality. She brightened every room she ever entered. She never met a stranger, and without fail, knew someone everywhere she went—much to the chagrin of her children, and later her grandchildren. In the mid-70s she worked as an attendance clerk at Old High where her charm and motherly instincts gained her a fleet of loyal office aides who lovingly referred to her as "B. York"—her hall pass signature. She was also a member of the Woman's Forum of Wichita Falls. Barbara volunteered for 10 years in the surgical waiting room as a member of the Bethania Ladies Auxiliary.

As a grandmother, Nanny, was unparalleled in her doting. Her grandchildren often told stories about how all of their friends wished they had a Nanny just like their Nanny. She made everything special, especially holidays. While her own mother, Dora Bains, was known for her skills as a seamstress, Barbara made her name in the kitchen. Her dishes were legendary—especially the pies—and like all good southern cooks, there is nary a recipe to be found for her best dishes. Surviving family members have been trying to get them just right for years under her inexact tutelage. We'll never stop trying to get that dressing and pie recipe "just right" in her honor.

Needless to say, Barbara Jane York, Nanny, will be missed greatly. We selfishly wish she were still here with us, but we know she is back in the arms of her love "Big Bill," and fussing over her son "Little Bill" in heaven.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Dora & Robert E. Bains, husband William T. York, and her son William T. York, Jr.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Robin and husband Wm. Carruthers of Wichita Falls, her granddaughter Carey (Jared) Petkoff of Denton, grandsons Blake (Leslie) Carruthers of San Antonio, Tom Carruthers of Wichita Falls, her granddaughters Kristen (Chad) Gore, and Kathryn York of Wichita Falls. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Greyson & Elizabeth Petkoff, Karagann Jones, Brayden Gore, Micah Toliver, and Londyn & Devon Criss, Jr.
