Bertha 'Joan' Sites Mapes, age 91, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on April 22, 2025.

Joan was born on Nov. 22, 1933, to Florien 'George' and Ola Mae Sites in Burkburnett, Texas. After graduating from Burkburnett High School in 1950, Joan met her lifelong sweetheart, Fred 'Doug' Mapes, and they married in 1952. They had three daughters, Ann Mapes Byas, Donna Mapes Lewis, and Susan Mapes. The family spent many years as members of Highland Heights Christian Church, and in later years Doug and Joan were members of First Christian Church in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Joan was the proud and loving grandmother to Brandon Byas, Laurie Byas, Will Lewis, Jaime Lewis Huff, Ian Skjervem, Sam Skjervem, and many beautiful great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Fred Douglas Mapes, by her parents, her sisters Mary Evelyn Sites Bow and Doris Sites Bigoness, her brothers John 'Jack' Sites and Dale Sites, and her daughter Ann Mapes Byas.

Services will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. in the pavilion at Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery at 920 Bishop Road with Dr. Samuel Abbott, Hospice of Wichita Falls Chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Brookdale Midwestern Senior Living in Wichita Falls for several years of loving care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Christian Church in Wichita Falls or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
