Betty Jeanne Barbee Lay passed away on August 15, 2024, following a lengthy illness. She was born December 12, 1928, in Quanah, Texas, to parents Mr. and Mrs. Mabry Barbee.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a brother J.C. Barbee who was killed in action in World War II; a sister, Glenda Naron Weatherby; and by her son, Raymond Lay of Wichita Falls.

Betty is survived by her niece Debbie Naron Nelson of Quanah, TX; nephews Richard Naron and wife Lisa of Denison, Texas; and Larry Naron of Quanah,TX; and several great nieces and nephews.

Betty pursued a career in business administration, graduating from Draughn's Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1948. Among other positions she held over the years, she worked for the Quanah Acme and Pacific Railway until that line was discontinued and the depot building was removed. Later, she became the Hardeman County Tax Assessor/Collector, retiring in 1999. Following her retirement she made her home in Wichita Falls, Texas.
