Johnny  "Bob"  Hance, age 87 a long-time resident of Wichita Falls, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on August  17, 2023.  Bob was born April 19, 1936 in Erick, Oklahoma to Odie and Jewel Hance. He spent his childhood and young adult life growing up in western Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle.  Even though class sizes tended to be smaller in the rural community areas, he enjoyed his friendships with many lasting a lifetime including annual gatherings and reunions.  Bob first attended Texas Tech University and went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in petroleum engineering.  His early career days led him to work in the oil fields of South America for an Exxon subsidiary and eventually back into north Texas.  It was in Electra, Texas where he met and married his loving wife, Phyllis, in 1964. After years working as an independent oil operator and the birth of two children, Bob decided to make a career change where he worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch in Wichita Falls, Texas for 29 years until his retirement in 2001.  He enjoyed developing lasting relationships with the families he worked alongside including those working in the Merrill Lynch office.

Following his retirement, Bob enjoyed working for a family helping to provide college scholarships to students in a nearby town.  This became a ministry of watching over graduating high school seniors and offering financial and advisory support throughout their Texas public college years.  In addition, Bob became involved in Habitat for Humanity Wichita Falls and served as President in 2008. Later, he became a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 41, located in Wichita Falls.  For at least 5 years, Bob transported veterans to the VA Oklahoma City hospital for their care-giving needs.

Bob was proud of his 4 grandsons and enjoyed introducing them to golf, one of his favorite sports, during their early childhood days.  He also enjoyed spending time traveling with Phyllis on trips, including some with her arts and crafts hobbies where he might locate a nearby golf course.

Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis; one daughter, Patrice Hance Zimmer and her husband Joe Zimmer; one son, Britt Hance and his wife Debbie Hance; four grandsons, Hudson Richardson, Davis Hance, Peyton Hance and Matthew Hance; and three granddaughters-in-law, Maxwellen Richardson, Kittsie Klaes Hance and Madeline Carlson Hance.

Bob was a member of Faith Village Church of Christ. The family offers their deep gratitude to all the wonderful caregivers who ministered to his body and our souls along this journey.

A funeral service is to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the 23rd of August at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home, 2812 Midwestern Parkway in Wichita Falls, Texas, where Bro. Charlie Thomason is to officiate. Shortly after, a graveside service to follow at Rosston Cemetery in Rosston, Texas (Cooke County).

A visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the 22nd of August at Lunn's Colonial Funeral home.
