Carter "Mac" McGregor III passed away peacefully on August 24 at his home at Danaher Airport near Wichita Falls. For 80 years, Mac lived a full life, much of it dedicated to hard work and his love of aviation.

Mac was born on November 5, 1942 in Bisbee, Arizona, where his mother and father Carter Jr. were stationed for flight training for WWII.

As a youth, Mac grew up on the McGregor ranch in Archer County, where he developed a love for the life of a cowboy and for the agricultural business. He worked along side his brothers, father, and hard-working cowboys.

After graduating from Wichita Falls High School in 1960, Mac attended the University of Wisconsin, studying, unsurprisingly, agriculture. Following his stint in college, Mac returned home to Archer County to help his father, Carter, run the Dale Ranch.

In 1961, Mac started a family, welcomed his three children, Doris Ann, Donald Carter, and David Lee.

For twenty-five years, Mac produced crops and raised cattle on the family ranch, and he did so as typical Mac McGregor fashion: He rose early and worked tirelessly, often well into the evening.  While some say they enjoy work hard. Mac lived a life that embodied the joy of a job well done.

As much as Mac relished farm work, he made a mid-life career move that accentuated his knowledge of farming and ranching with aviation that was nothing short of genius. With his friend Ralph Harvey, III, Mac and his partner founded Texoma Ag Flying Service.  And for the next 34 years, Mac combined his love for farming with his love of flying. Mac was a natural as an aerial applicator, crop duster, an occupation that requires a steady hand, a calm mind, and keen concentration. Accidents are common in the agriculture aviation business, but Mac's record was spotless. In 2017, he earned the Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" Award from the Department of Transportation for fifty years of aviation safety with no accidents or incidents.

Texoma Ag Flying was a resounding business success. Mac was extremely devoted to his hundreds of clients, and they accepted and respected Mac's advice and his professionalism in doing his best to improve their harvests.

Mac also flew a variety of aircraft simply for fun, including the AT-6 for the Commemorative Air Force. In addition, Mac was a frequent air show participant, often flying his acrobatic Extra 300 L and other planes to the delight of the audience and his personal pleasure and comradery with other pilots.

Besides his professional successes, Mac also believed in giving back to his community. Mac was a faithful blood donor for the Red Cross for 60 years, giving thirty-four gallons—certainly no small achievement and a clear example of his generosity and desire to help others.

Mac also served on the Archer City ISD school board, and he was particularly proud to have been a part of the approval and construction of the school's athletic stadium in 1975. And Mac was also a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church.

Mac finally retired in 2017. And he also married BJ Danaher, also a pilot and together they enjoyed Mac's retirement, traveling to air shows, throughout the United States and Europe— essentially relishing each other's company.

Besides his wife, Mac is survived by his daughter, Doris Steinberger (Bob); his son, David (Stephanie);two brothers John McGregor (Chris) and Bill McGregor (Katherine); 6 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mac was preceded in death by his parents, Carter Jr. and his mother Doris; and his stepmother, Beth; as well as his son, Don.

Family visitation will be at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, August 28 at 6:00, and the Funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday August 29 at 1:00. Dr. Michael Hanson and Roger Deerinwater will officiate. The entombment will follow at the Crestview Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. Missing Man flyover will immediately follow.
