Obituary

Cheryl Norriss Prothro went to see her Jesus on October 9, 2026.

Cheryl was born on October 2, 1957, to Clarence Eugene Norriss, Jr. and Lila Walker Norriss in Wichita Falls, Texas. Cheryl attended Fain Elementary, Barwise Junior High School, and S.H. Rider High School, in Wichita Falls, Texas. While at Rider, she enjoyed cheering on the Raiders and was voted "Miss Raider" in 1976 by the student body. During high school, Cheryl was active in Young Life and Campus Crusaders for Christ. Cheryl graduated from Texas Christian University in 1980 with a degree in Art History, but her "real" college experience was studying abroad in Rome for a year through Loyola University of Chicago's John Felice Rome Center.

With a love for all things Rome, and as a skilled speaker of Italian, upon returning to Texas she worked for the Italian Trade Commission in the World Trade Center in Dallas, Texas. Cheryl also worked for United Savings of Dallas and for her family's business, Norriss Brothers Lumber Company in Wichita Falls. For Cheryl, however, her most important job was being a supportive wife to Charlie and mother to five children, with whom she played and laughed, and fiercely loved.

Cheryl loved the Episcopal School and Christ Academy of Wichita Falls, Texas. Both during and after her children's attendance there, she was instrumental in both the tennis and golf programs at Christ Academy. Cheryl was active in the Wichita Falls Country Club and served on its board, yet her greatest contributions at WFCC were in tennis and golf. Cheryl started "Newbie Tuesday," where she encouraged women to share in her love of the game of golf. Cheryl always took pleasure in introducing new people to the things and experiences about which she was passionate. Cheryl also served as a trustee of The Priddy Foundation from 2020 through 2022.

Cheryl loved and supported Charlie's career at Northwestern Mutual. She deeply respected the company, its culture, and putting clients first. She loved her Northwestern Mutual family across the country.

Cheryl was a woman of endless interests, and that is part of what made her so fascinating. She loved Rome and all things Italian, tennis, golf, youth sports, private Christian education, arts and culture, flower gardening, and lake living. Cheryl was especially fond of her "Prairie Lake," the name she gave to her and Charlie's property at Eagle Mountain Lake, Texas, where she loved watching bald eagles, osprey, deer, beautiful sunsets, and her favorite, the sunrises.

While being healthy and active was always important to Cheryl, it was never more important than in the last 17 months, as she courageously fought brain cancer. Functional medicine and the metabolic treatment of cancer became her passion. Cheryl honored the body God gave her to the very end.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Charles Bradley Prothro, and five children: James Bradley Prothro (Ashley) of Florissant, Missouri; Lila Marie Prothro of Plano, Texas; Charles Walker Prothro (Blythe) of Wichita Falls, Texas; Emma Prothro Jacobson (Beau) of Aledo, Texas; and Johnson Holland Prothro (Ashleigh) of Waco, Texas. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Sophia Anne Prothro, Heidi Katharine Prothro, Elizabeth Hope Prothro, Charles Christopher Prothro, James Reed Prothro, Calvin James Prothro, and Bruce Kelton "Kit" Jacobson IV. Cheryl is also survived by her mother, Lila Walker Norriss; and her brother, Gary Eugene Norriss (Amy); and her sister, Kimberly Sue Norriss.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to Shannon Bode, RN, Cheryl's hospice nurse, and Dr. Brighton Miller, DO, Cheryl's functional physician.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 7th, at Grace Church in Wichita Falls, Texas. Please wear bright colors.
