Dale Arthur Portmann passed away on May 6, 2022 in Wichita Falls Texas. He was 93 years old.

Born February 19, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Arthur Julius and Hilda Dale Portmann. Dale attended the University of Missouri on a football scholarship. Nicknamed "Ox," by his teammates.  Dale graduated with a BA in Education and taught briefly upon graduation, before settling into a career in sales in Dallas.

Soon after arriving in Dallas, Dale met the love of his life, Kathleen Mae Hill. They married on November 2, 1957 and spent 58 years together, affably teasing one another and enjoying great meals and raising three children: Kelly, Eric and Kurt.

The family moved from Texas to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1972 and there Dale managed the General Box Company for more than 20 years. His life in Sheboygan included golf, going to the Y, attending basketball games, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and hunting and exploring the rivers of Wisconsin by canoe with his friends and family.

Upon retirement Dale and Kadie moved to Northwest Arkansas. He became skilled at weaving Navajo style rugs and spent time officiating track and field events at the University of Arkansas. He and Kadie eventually moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, to be near their son Kurt and their three grandchildren.

Dale was a true gentleman, attentive to those he loved.  He was amusing, active and charming up until the very end of his life. He continued to attend life-long learning courses at the local university, gathered with friends and visited National Parks.  During the pandemic lock down, Dale learned the art of woodcarving, producing a prolific number of carved birds.  Anyone who spent time with him knew him as a steady person with a quick wit, endless curiosity and dedicated to his family.

He is preceded in death by his wife Kadie, who passed on January 15, 2016, his daughter Kelly who passed on March 21, 2016, and his sister Sylvia, who passed November 16, 2003.

Dale is survived by his two sons, Eric of Twisp, WA and his children Leif and Tova; son Kurt and his wife Amy of Wichita Falls, TX and his children Max, Eli and Sadie, his stepson Jacob Vance, his nephew Barry Wightman of Elm Grove, Wisconsin and niece Laura Fedder of St. Louis, Missouri.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls howf.org/donate/ or a charity of one's choosing.  The family will have a memorial service to be held at a later date.
