David A. Dowdy, 83, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4th at Lunn's Chapel. Interment will follow at Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

A son of the late Anita (Fry) and Albert Dowdy, David was born on July 11, 1940, in Knowles, Oklahoma. In high school he was an outstanding basketball player, competing in the state championships in his senior year.

David served his country honorably in the United States Army,  deploying both in Europe and domestically. Following his military service,  David completed his B.S. degree in mathematics at the University of Toledo Ohio in 1968, and remained fluent in B.S for the remainder of his life.

Employing his math background,  David built a career in the plastics and rubber industry with positions at Centrex, Bendix and Owens-Illinois. While employed as Process Engineer at Bendix,  David obtained two machining patents. Leveraging his experience in the industry,  David co-founded Noster Rubber Company with his friend Don Wills.

David loved music all his life, and pursued that interest by playing and singing both in private and public performances. Dave's mischievous sense of humor sometimes landed him crosswise with those who didn't appreciate his jokes, which seemed only to encourage his antics.

Following David's accident in 1985, he moved to Wichita Falls where his parents cared for him for over 20 years.  He accompanied them delivering Meals on Wheels for much of that time.

He eventually moved into full time care at Texhoma Christian Care Center in 2008 where he remained the rest of his life. The family offers special thanks to all the nurses and caregivers at TCCC who made sure Dave's time there was as comfortable, positive and engaging as possible.  Despite his situation,  David maintained his good sense of humor  and managed to make others feel good being with him.

David is survived by his two brothers, Ron and Bruce, his three children, Marquietta,  David Lynn, and Erin as well as his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and everyone else who is reading this obituary.
