David Richard Hestand was born February 19, 1962, in Wichita Falls, Texas.  He died September 16, 2021, at HCA North Cypress Hospital in Houston, Texas due to complications from COVID-19.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22 ^nd at Lunn's Chapel. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

David, along with his wife Mary and their children, lived in the Houston area for over 20 years.  David, an accomplished electrician, retired from Shell Oil Company in 2019.  At that time, he was able to spend more time on his hobbies which included vintage race cars, World War II models, and a 40 model Chevy Sedan.  He loved going to vintage races and showing off his cars.

David was a man of many talents.  In addition to being an amazing handy man who could fix almost anything, he could also cook almost anything.  His former Texaco and Shell coworkers always looked forward to "feeds" he would put on for various celebrations.  He also cooked for his family with absolute perfection.

David was a truly special person.  He always knew how to make people laugh.  He had a very dry sense of humor that some have referred to as caustic.  He just had a gift of being able to find the funny side of serious situations, and after making his comment, the situation did not seem so serious anymore.  He was able to do that because he did not take himself seriously.  There is a lesson there for all of us.

Above all, David was a good man with countless friends and a loving family.  He and Mary have nine children and sixteen grandchildren (with two more on the way) whom he loved dearly.  His grandchildren called him "Big Brother" because he said he was too young to be a grandfather. The family will never stop missing and loving him.  We wish he was here now to make us laugh and help us see the lighter side of life in his macabre way.

David was preceded in death by his father Holland Howard Hestand and his first wife Rhonda Cooper Hestand.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Hestand; his mother, Karen Laney Curtis; his sister, Suzanne (Mike) Long; sons, Sam Hestand (Candice) and Jacob Hestand; daughters, Vanessa Ramirez (Shaun); Jennifer Garcia (David); Jessica Martinez (Tony); and Katie Hestand; stepsons, James Goodner (Kristen); and Justin Goodner (Sunni); step-daughter, Allison Goodner Vergara (Tony); and 16 grandchildren; and two more on the way.
