Doris Marie Carpenter fought a lengthy, courageous and dignified battle against cancer and went peacefully to her Heavenly home on Monday, March 6, 2023, with her family at her bedside.

A Celebration of Life Service for Doris will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8 ^th at Lunn's Colonial Chapel with Dr. Isaac Butterworth officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation following the service. Doris will be interred at 3:00 p.m. next to her beloved husband, JL in the Throckmorton Cemetery, in Throckmorton, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Doris was born on March 22, 1928, to Oleta and Rody Sorenson and would have turned 95 years old on in just a couple of weeks. She grew up with her brother, Bill, who preceded her in death two months ago. Doris and Bill were raised on a farm in Mattson, Texas, surrounded by many cousins and loved ones.

It was in this Haskell County town of Mattson, where Doris graduated high school in 1945. She was introduced to JL Carpenter, from nearby Throckmorton County, while she was in high school, and they were married on July 3, 1945. When JL finished his service of the Merchant Marines, they settled in Throckmorton, Texas, raising their two children, Ronnie and Karen. While living there, Doris worked at the school tax office and also served as secretary of First Baptist Church. She was a wonderful homemaker and active mother at school and church events.

In 1969, Doris and JL moved to Wichita Falls, where she continued church activities serving with JL, as directors for a Sunday school department, as well as other ministries. They were also active members of Rockin' Wheels RV club and enjoyed traveling with many friends throughout the years. Doris had quite the reputation on the Bridge Club circuit, as she was an accomplished player and made many friends through this hobby. While at Presbyterian Manor, she met new friends who enjoyed playing games and having fun together.

Family was highly important to Doris, as she always included every member in wonderful family gatherings. Her family adored her and is so thankful for her faith in God and her life so well-lived. JL and Doris were married for 68 wonderful years until he preceded her in death on January 31, 2014.

Doris is survived by her son, Ronnie Carpenter; daughter, Karen Lucy and husband, Johnny; grandchildren, Lesly Scott; Stacey White and husband, Dewayne; Ryan Lucy and wife, Jasmin; Travis Lucy; and Kerry Turner and husband, Jeff; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Frankie Sorenson; and four nieces and nephews.

The family extends many thanks to Dr. Robert Parkey, the caring nurses and aides at Healing Hands Hospice unit and for the wonderful care she received at Presbyterian Manor.
