Dorothy Elizabeth Carpenter, 98, of Archer City, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

Graveside services were held on Friday, May 5 ^th at Throckmorton Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

A daughter of the late Ruth Mamie (Clark) and Ewell Durwood Condron, Dorothy was born on October 12, 1924, in Throckmorton, Texas. She received a dietician's degree from Texas Woman's University during WWII, and later received a BS from McMurray with a degree in elementary education. She married John William Carpenter after his return from WWII. As a couple they started a family and eventually left Throckmorton to go to the Abilene area, both places Dorothy professionally taught. After retirement, a move to Arkansas was made, but with the passing of her husband in 1977, Dorothy once again returned to Texas.

Dorothy's love for education continued throughout her entire life, pouring into her grandchildren with all the facts from her beloved Britannica encyclopedias. She loved and was exceedingly loved by all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. As the matriarch of the family, Dot, GrannyGirl, Gran, GreatGran, Mommy, Bird Legs, Energizer Bunny, and later the General went by many names all representing the many hats she had worn during her life. Dorothy could have been found doing many activities she loved: memorizing and learning scripture, playing cards with her family, teaching vocabulary and facts, gardening and cooking, and of course laughing. She passed down her love of knowledge and the importance of living a God centered life to her family. Although for the majority of her life she was plagued by poor eyesight, her character was one of perseverance, unselfishness, and faith that embodied the best representation of the "greatest generation." In her later years, Dorothy was especially thankful for the routine phone calls from Skipper and Kay. She cherished her relationships with her nieces and her beloved nephew. She enjoyed a close relationship with all members of her family.

Along with her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband, John (Billy) William Carpenter; brother, Durwood Condron; and son, Jim Riffe Carpenter.

She is survived by her sister Tommye Cook of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Diana Hayley, and beloved son-in-law "Joe" of Wichita Falls; grandchildren, Travis Carpenter and wife Rachel of Grand Prairie; Jonathan Carpenter and wife Mari of Richmond; Jodi Streich and husband Kyle of Holliday; Amber and husband Wes of Montgomery; and John Hayley and wife Lauren of Wichita Falls; daughter-in-law, Chry Carpenter of Montgomery; thirteen great-grandchildren; and other close relatives.
