Dorothy Swift, aged 88, of Petrolia, Texas, peacefully departed this life on June 18, 2025.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Petrolia, Texas with Rev. Darius McKay officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonel Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born June 17, 1937 to George and May (Henline) Stryker in Alberta, Canada.

Dorothy married her beloved husband, David Swift, on August 13, 1957. Dorothy was a homemaker and schoolteacher for many years. She enjoyed many activities through the years, involving church, spending time with family and friends. Later in life, she enjoyed going to the senior center to play bingo or to the church to have coffee with the ladies of the community.

She never met a stranger; she was a friend to all she came in contact with. Dorothy loved to work on crossword puzzles and Word Search to occupy her free time. Her morning routine consisted of reading her Bible and praying. Dorothy was a favorite teacher, favorite aunt, favorite grandma, and, most of all, a favorite mom who will be missed by many for her influence, godly character, and unwavering love for God.

Preceding her in death were her husband, David of 65 years; parents George and May Stryker; infant daughter Jeanette Swift; granddaughter Laura Swift; and siblings Floyd Stryker and Linda Stryker.

She is survived by her children Richard Swift (Sue) of Monmouth, Illinois, Jim Swift (Anita) of Springfield, Missouri, Rebekah Pruett (Jody) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Darrel Swift (Jan) of Bethel Island, California, and Paul Swift of Petrolia, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brother Peter Stryker; and her little Joy.

The family extends gratitude to Healing Hands Home Health, Falls Home Health, Petrolia Senior Center, her aide Naomi, and hairdresser Sonja
