DyAnn Garrett Barnes, 73, a lifelong resident of Wichita Falls, joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

A visitation will be held in the chapel of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home, Friday, January 8, from 6-7 pm. The service will be at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 1007 Burnett St, Saturday, January 9, at 11:00 am. Masks will be required for all who attend.

DyAnn was born February 24, 1947, at Bethania hospital to Jewel Garrett & Juanita Johnston Garrett. She graduated from S. H. Rider High School in 1965. She married Bill Barnes on June 25, 1965. After raising her daughters, DyAnn returned to school.  In 1989, DyAnn graduated magna cum laude from Midwestern State University with a BA in elementary education. She taught 2nd grade at Crockett Elementary for most of her years in education. She retired in 2006 but continued tutoring at Crockett and privately for many years. After retirement, DyAnn volunteered for the Wichita Falls Adult Literacy Council and The Faith Refuge for Women. She was a parishioner of The Church of the Good Shepherd where she was a member of the Prayer Daughters and altar guild.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her longtime feline companion, Charlie.

She is survived by her husband of almost 56 years, Bill Barnes; her two daughters, Kerri Mathis and Sherri Gaines Lucas both of Wichita Falls; her brother Roy Garrett of Las Vegas, NV; her grandchildren, Erin Shields of Wichita, KS, Garrett Rangel of Iowa Park, TX, Foster Gaines of Denver, CO, and Josh Lucas of Wichita Falls; and one great grandson Harrison Shields.
