Ed S. Spragins, 90, of Burkburnett, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday April 2, 2022, in Wichita Falls, Texas.  His journey here is complete, and he now rests in the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday April 6th from 6-7 pm.  Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday April 7th at Floral Heights United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Brian Bosworth, followed by internment at Crestview Cemetery in Wichita Falls.

Edward Samuel Spragins was born March 13, 1932, in Greenville, Texas, to Florence Keyes Spragins and Edward Stith Spragins.  He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1950.  He served honorably for 2 years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.  He then graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science with a degree in geology.

Ed initially worked as a staff geologist for Jack Grace Production Company before striking out on his own as an independent oil operator in Wichita Falls, TX.  Ed was a proven oil finder with prospects developed and drilled in many North Texas counties.  He founded Western Well Service in 1976 which still is an operating and family-owned business.  He served as the President of the North Texas Oil & Gas Association, the predecessor to the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, from 1984-1986.

While a successful exploration geologist Ed's passion was farming and ranching.  He owned and operated farms in Wichita and Wilbarger Counties and a ranch in Jack County.  Ed loved nature and was an accomplished outdoorsman.  He was honored with Conversationist of the Year award in Wichita County.  He was an astute businessman and the consummate deal maker.  His success, at least in part, was attributable to his drive to succeed combined with his inquisitive nature.  He was always learning and very well read.

He was involved in many charitable and community organizations.  He served as a director for the North Texas Rehab Center and Floral Heights United Methodist Church.  He was a founding member of Wichita Falls Crimestoppers and longtime member of The Hundred Club.  Ed was also a founding contributor Bill Bartley YMCA and to the University of Oklahoma Energy Center.

Ed married Jacqulyn Lee Spragins on August 5, 1986.  They were happily married for over 35 years loving each other every day. They enjoyed time with family and many great adventures together.  Jackie was a faithful and attentive care provider for Ed over the last years of his life.  Although Ed has now passed, their love for each other lives on and serves as an example to their children and grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Ed was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Will Spragins, who passed in 2001.

Ed is survived by his wife, Jacqulyn Spragins; his daughter Jamie Blanton and her husband, Rusty; his son Mark Ford and wife, Kristen; his son Neil Spragins and wife, Cylisa; his son Lance Spragins and wife, Angelina; and his daughter Laura McWhorter and husband, Jerry. Ed is also survived by grandchildren Camille Blanton, Cayden Blanton, Maya Ford, Brady Ford, Elyse LeBeau, Cari LeBeau, Lauren Spragins, Jared Spragins, Luke Spragins, Levi Spragins and Emily Hansen as well as great grandchildren Wade and Alex Spragins. He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Weber of Los Angeles, CA; his sister-in-law Tammy LeBeau and husband, Kevin; sister-in-law Terri Lanham and husband, Kent; niece Lisa Nesbitt and husband, Bill; nephew Mark Weber and wife, Beth Ann; and, nephew Scott Weber and wife, Heidi.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Ginnings, David Tate, Trace Moran, Harlan Tournay, Bud Davey, Gene Stout and Dale Harvey.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Earle W. Crawford House of Hope and Wichita Falls Hospice for all of the loving care provided for Ed during his lengthy illness.  The family also wishes to thank special friend Jim Ginnings who helped Ed throughout their many years of friendship in his walk with the Lord.
