Ellen Mae "Jackson" Altom, 89, went to be with the Lord peacefully in her sleep with family at her bedside on May 12, 2022, at the Superior Health and Nursing Home in Conway, Arkansas.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16 ^th at Lunn's. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17 ^th at Lunn's with Pastor Chad Stubblefield officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Ellen was born on March 21, 1933, in Judsonia, Arkansas, to William E. Jackson and Elva Adela Parson. Her mother later married Elmer Earnest Smith, and he was her dad. Ellen married Lonnie Nathaniel Altom on July 17, 1958, in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

She was a member of Solgahachia Baptist Church in Solgahachia, Arkansas. Ellen was a very religious and God-fearing woman. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who taught her children and grandchildren many things in life.

For many years, Ellen worked at Hollywood Brands Candy Company in Centralia, Illinois, until it was destroyed by fire. She then moved to Iowa Park, Texas, to be with her husband, and there she worked in a nursing home.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Elva Adela Smith and Elmer Earnest Smith; her husband, Lonnie N. Altom; sons, Elmer James Altom, John Jackson Altom and John Robert Fleming; brother, Johnnie Robert Bland; and sisters, Elzia Cordelia Sturch and Shirley Ann Jaramillio.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Michael) Sikes of Morrilton, AR; two sons, Lonnie L. (Sharon) Altom of Iowa Park, TX; and Jimmy D. Altom of Atoka, OK; daughter-in-law, Raquel Altom of Corpus Christi, TX; three sisters, Annie B. Johnson of Bristol, IN; Jean (Jerry) Roberts; and Connie L. Smith, all of Elkhart, IN; adopted brothers, Bobby Smith of OK; and Richard Smith of MO; adopted sister, Ellen Avants of MO; brother-in-law, Melvin D. Altom; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Altom, along with 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family extends special thanks to Superior Health and Rehab Nursing Home for Ellen's care for her as if she were their mother.
