Evan Matthew Cornelius, 20, of Wichita Falls, passed away unexpectedly on January 6, 2023, following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be at a time and date to be announced later.

The first born, and eldest son of Amy and David Schmoe, Evan was born on May 30, 2002, in Yakima, Washington. Deciding he was not going to be left out of the fun, Evan came into the world on his terms a few weeks early, and just four short days after his cousin, and kept his family on their toes every day after. He grew up in Yakima, Washington, attending Franklin Middle School and Davis High School up until the time his family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, in 2017.

As a child, Evan was always active, excelling (and usually injuring himself) in every sport he played, but he especially loved football and baseball. He could also be found fishing, hunting when he had a chance, and doing just about anything outdoors. Many summer weekends were spent camping with his cousins. When he wasn't with family, you could often find Evan spending time with his closest friends. As Evan got older, he developed a love for cooking and had considered pursuing culinary arts. Above all, Evan's kind soul, gentle spirit and fierce love for those he cared about is what will be remembered by everyone who had the opportunity to know and love him.

Evan was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Murl Scraper; great-grandparents, Jeb and Nedra Cornelius; grandfather, Paul Schmoe; and uncles, Trevor Freisz and William Craigmiles.

He is survived by his parents, Amy (Cornelius) and David Schmoe; sisters, Jayden Dagenais and Abby Schmoe; brother, John Dagenais; grandmother, Elizabeth Evans; grandparents Kyle and Nora Cornelius; aunt and uncle, Alison (Cornelius) and Justin Steward;cousins, Elijah Freisz and Arabella Steward; and numerous extended family members and friends.
