Dr. Frank RuBane, 85, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on October 22, 2024.

A visitation will be held October 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and a memorial service will be held on October 27th at 1:00 p.m., both will take place at Lunn's Colonial Chapel. Rev. Georgia Harrison will officiate the memorial service. Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home of Guthrie, Oklahoma, at 1:00 p.m. on October 29th.

Frank was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 18, 1938, to parents Francis "Frank" RuBane and Elaine (Frisch) RuBane. He was a first generation American, his father being from Austria-Hungary and his mother from Switzerland. He grew up with his younger sister Joan in Steubenville, Ohio, Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Santa Barbara, California.

Frank earned a B.S. degree from University of California and Santa Barbara and went to medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans. He was on his internship in El Paso when he met Janis, a medical records supervisor. After a clandestine effort of prayers and candle-lighting by Janis's coworkers, they married in the El Paso County Courthouse in 1966. On one date, they went fishing. Frank, myopic and unreasonably afraid of spiders, commented about all the frogs coming down to the water. Janis pointed out that they were in fact tarantulas. She said she knew it was true love when he took time to gather her and the picknick basket before abandoning the fishing spot.

Frank was always dedicated to helping people, a passion that he channeled into his pediatric practice in Garland, Texas, his patients and their families, his friendships, and even strangers. He was chief of pediatrics for many years at Baylor Hospital of Garland.

Frank took up the practice of Judo in 1976, eventually earning a black belt under his sensei Vince Tamura, of the Tamura Judo Institute in Dallas. In his early fifties, he came home from judo practice one day and declared he was tired of getting thrown on the ground by a bunch of large Japanese fellows (not his exact words). He took up watercolor and oil painting, becoming a talented painter and winning several blue ribbons in the Texas State Fair.

After he retired in 1999, he and Janis moved to Wichita Falls. They found it to be a welcoming city and made many new friends in their senior years here.

Frank was dedicated to his wife and family, showing much love and support even in addition to attending many quilt fairs with Janis, and his children's frequent band and orchestra performances. He will be dearly missed by his sister Joan and son Tom, his nieces and nephews on Janis's side, as well as his friends, coworkers, and many former patients.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elaine RuBane, his wife Janis (Ballenger) RuBane, and his daughter Rebecca RuBane. He is survived by his sister, Dr. Joan RuBane of LaQuinta, California, and his son, Tom RuBane of Denver, Colorado.
