Guy Barnett McNeely, July 18, 1940 – March 7, 2024

In loving memory of Guy Barnett McNeely, who passed in spirit on March 7, 2024. Guy was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, and graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1958. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in mathematics from Midwestern State University in 1964. That same year, he accepted a position at Lockheed-Martin as a system's analyst; he was assigned to the NASA project and spent the next 17 years working on each of the Apollo space missions. In 1982, he moved back to Wichita Falls and joined Telos Corporation, where he managed the development of software systems for the Army. Telos promoted him in 1985 and moved him to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he remained with the company until he returned for good to Wichita Falls in 1995. For the next 13 years, he worked for Cantu Services, a military food service company. He retired in 2008.

Guy is the eldest of two children born to Guy Heartwell McNeely and Mildred Vivian Payne. He married Norma Jean Lile (Jeanne) in 1961, and during their 51 years together, they raised two children, a granddaughter, four dogs, and many cats. Guy enjoyed coaching his kids' sports teams, golfing, playing softball, bowling, reading, and, as he put it, "piddling around the house and yard." He was a mean ping-pong player, too, and a pretty darn good cook. After he lost Jeanne to cancer in 2012, he found love again with Charlotte Adams Mendenhall. They married in 2014 and enjoyed every moment of their "second chance," traveling, dancing, hanging with their very dear "Old High" friends, and raising their beloved long-haired dachshund.

Guy is preceded in death by Jeanne and his parents. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Charlotte; son Kerry McNeely; daughters Judy Carlton and husband Calvin, and Diane Davis and husband Paul Mowery; grandchildren Mason Derrick Lee, Samantha Jean McNeely, and Rachel McWilliams; great grandchild Olivia Grace McWilliams; brother John Randall McNeely and wife Gina; niece Brooke Galligan; nephew Matt McNeely; grandnephew, Wyatt Galligan; stepsons Harley Zane Mendenhall and wife Surada, Thomas Darin Mendenhall, and Richard Zachary Mendenhall and wife Lisa; and his chubby little wiener dog, Riddick.

Guy was a former Master Mason and member of the Maskat Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the First Christian Church and the Big Band Dance Club. He was brilliant, loyal, generous, and kind, and he had a fiery temper that you did not want to touch off. He could be as stubborn as a mule when he thought he was right. There was no one more dependable, capable, or punctual, and no one more devoted to those he loved. He was who he was, take it or leave it. He had a quick wit, a contagious laugh, a warm smile, and a very scary scowl. He was one of a kind, and he will be profoundly missed by anyone lucky enough to have experienced his love.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in the chapel of Lunn's Funeral Home on Friday, March 15, at 2:00 pm.
