Jack Harvey Smith passed away on December 18, 2023, into God's graces after a long and well-loved life at 99.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 9:30 until 10:45 on Thursday, December 21st at Lunn's. Interment with military honors will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Crestview Memorial Park with Rev. Tommy Bragg officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Jack was born on August 22, 1924, in Burkburnett, Texas, to Harvey Carol Smith and Bessie Mae (Davidson) Smith. He was a warrior through out his life. Jack was a tenacious individual who refused to let age stand in his way. He retired from the oil field as a pumper at the age of 93.

As an ordained deacon of the Baptist Church, Jack taught Sunday school for many years. Singing in the choir was one Jack's delights. He sang solos frequently and was recently caught humming hymns in his sleep.

Jack is a decorated veteran who served in WWII. He was inducted into the US Navy as an apprentice seaman in 1943. After Landing Craft School, he was transferred to Wainanalo Amphibious Training Base where he earned the rank of Warrant Officer (Boatswain). He then crossed the 180th Meridian and participated in transporting Marines on the invasion of both Tarawa and seven months later on the beaches of Saipan in the South Pacific. Jack was awarded the Asian-Pacific Ribbon and WWII victory ribbon.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 50 years, Sadie LaVerne Smith; plus three sisters, Mrs. Neil Butts, Mrs. Trudye Byrd and Mrs. LaRue Vann.

He is survived by his current wife, Charlene Smith; two sons, Jackie Dewayne Smith and Lynn Smith and wife, Judy. He delighted in his three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
