Jan Houser Pitts, born on Valentine's Day February 14, 1944, in Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Fittingly born on a day dedicated to love, Jan lived every one of her 81 years giving generously to her family and community.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. The family invites friends to a visitation following the service.

Jan was a proud graduate of Wichita Falls High School ("Old High") in 1962 and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in 1966. She later married John Michael Pitts (Mike) on December 1, 1968 and soon after began her career as a teacher in Dallas and Bridgeport, Texas. She later owned and operated a business in Wichita Falls and worked as an office manager for the family business E&A Materials.

Jan was a lifelong volunteer who poured her time and talents into countless local organizations, including Wichita Falls Museum of Art, Symphony League, Junior League, Heritage Society, and Women's Forum.

Known for her loving and patient nature, Jan was a doting mother of three who would expend copious amounts of energy entertaining her children and their friends. She was a legendary cook and hostess who loved preparing food for her family, friends, and volunteer organizations.

Jan's heart belonged to Possum Kingdom Lake. She found great joy in skiing, swimming, boating and entertaining at her home on the lake.

Jan wore many hats throughout her life and did it with grace, grit, and a touch of sparkle. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that Jan's legacy of love, humor, and quiet strength will continue to shine through those she touched.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband Mike and parents, Homer and Lyda Mae Adams Houser, and is survived by her children, John Michael Pitts, Jr., Matthew Pitts, and Holly Pitts; her sister, Sue Houser Lombard, and brother-in-law, Ben Lombard; her nieces, Lisa Lombard Kays and Brooke Lombard Grohs; and her grandchildren, Allison Pitts, John Michael Pitts, III (Jack), Luke Pitts, and Elizabeth Pitts.
