Janice Rhea MacDonald Hetherington was born on November 17, 1932 in Canton Ohio. Her parents were John Roy MacDonald and Alva Nina MacDonald and she had a younger brother, John Robert. The family moved to Meadville, Pennsylvania and lived on a working dairy farm when Janice was in elementary school. Janice was active in the Future Farmers of America and a member of the National Honor Society during her high school years and graduated from Meadville High School in 1950. She studied Piano and Organ music at the Pennsylvania College of Music and became the Organist of the Evangelical and Reformed Church on Watson Run Road in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

Janice moved to Dallas Texas in January 1953 and worked as an Executive Secretary with Magnolia Petroleum Company. As a member of Grace Methodist Church (Dallas) she was the Assistant Organist, singing in the choir, and active in the Questers Sunday School Class and Evening Singles Group.

Janice married John Clark Hetherington (from Galveston, Texas) on April 14, 1956. Together they had two children Mark David and Elaine Gail. Janice and John joined First Methodist Church in November 1956. They held many church positions/offices over the years, taught Elementary (third and fourth grade) classes, Vacation Bible School, and Adult Classes. Janice was the pianist for all the children and adult classes she was part of over the years. Both John and Janice were charter members of The Silvertones Chorus of Irving which was organized in 1985.

After her husband passed away in April 2004, Janice stayed in Irving until June 2005, when she wanted to be closer to family. She and her mother Nina moved to Rolling Meadows in Wichita Falls Texas in June 2005. She was well known at Rolling Meadows for her "smile and a wink!"

She passed away peacefully on February 14, 2021. A graveside service will be held February 23, 2021 at Restland Cemetery, in Dallas, Texas, at 1:00 PM officiated by Dr. Isaac Butterworth.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents Roy and Nina, and her brother Bob.

Janice is survived by her son, Mark Hetherington and his wife Bidde, of Wichita Falls, daughter Elaine Paden, of Wichita Falls, three grandchildren: Robert Hetherington and his wife Emily, of Leavenworth Kansas (active-duty Air Force), Janell Stewart and her husband Jason, of Wichita Falls, and Michelle Paden and Brian, of Irving Texas, as well as six great grandchildren.
