Jean Boyd Puckett, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, after celebrating her 94 ^th birthday with family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 1 ^st at First Christian Church with Dr. Mark Bender officiating. A reception in the church parlor will follow the service. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Jean was born on October 24, 1927, in Waco, Texas, a daughter of Drane (Horn) and Nophlet (William) Boyd. Raised in Waco, Jean attended the University of Texas Austin, where she met the love her life, Bob. Together Jean and Bob enjoyed 65 years of marriage, making Wichita Falls their home.

She devoted her life to family, community and church. Jean was a member of First Christian Church, where she served as a board member, was a life time Diaconate and a member of the Stephen Ministry.

Her involvement in cultural activities included the Wichita Falls Museum and Art Center, now Wichita Museum of Art at MSU. She served at board president, taking office the day the tornado hit Wichita Falls in 1979. The museum was two-thirds destroyed and rebuilt with wonderful support from the community, raising enough funds to not only rebuild but to add a large addition, as well.

Jean's volunteer service to various charities continued throughout her life. She was blessed with honors and recognition, some of which were: First Christian Church Life Time Diaconate; past board member Junior League, awarded 1996 Sustainer Merit Award; board president of Wichita County Heritage Society, presented Preservation Service Award; also served the Kell House Museum in various committees, especially Santa House and exhibits; Work Service Corporation board member for 26 years; City of Wichita Falls planning for 6 years; board member of Helen Farabee MH-MR and PNAC committee; and served on the Ethics Committee of North Texas State Hospital.

In 1990, Jean, her husband and Doris Houston co-founded the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, Wichita Falls (NAMI) Chapter, serving as president. NAMI Wichita Falls is an affiliate of the state and national organization. She was honored to be appointed to NAMI Texas State Board, and honored in 2021 with an Award for Commitment to NAMI. Jean was a charter member of Carousel Club, Wichita Falls Country Club, Junior Standard Study Club and Unity 111.

Jean loved her home, traveling with family and friends, summers at the beach, time spent at Possum Kingdom Lake, teaching her boys to ski and scuba dive. She always said, "Happiness is seeing your head above water."

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Robert M. Puckett; their infant daughter; her sisters, Alice Johnson McGeevy and Johnnie Emily Simons; and her brother, Joe Nophlet Boyd.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (Bob) and his wife, Gay; William Tyndale (Ty) and his wife, Peggy; and David Boyd; five grandchildren, Lynn Kasten and husband, Ryan; Caroline Hairston and husband, Brett; Will Puckett and wife, Sara; Elizabeth Puckett and Robert Boyd Puckett; four great-grandchildren, Hudson and West Kasten; and Hadley and Evie Hairston.
