Jo Ann Cermin, age 87 went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Snyder officiating. A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Sunday, February 5, 2023 in the Boerne, Texas Cemetery with Rev. Richard Pfaff officiating. There will be a family visitation  at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home, Friday evening from 6-7 PM.

Jo Ann was born on May 21, 1935 to Gertrude and Alvin Reinhard in Boerne, Texas.  She was baptized on September 26, 1937 in New Braunfels, TX.  Her confirmation was held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Boerne on March 21, 1948.  At an early age, she learned how to pump gas, fix flats, grease cars, and make hamburgers at her parents' 24-hour truck stop/café.  She also learned to proficiently play the piano and the accordion, and through her school years she played in annual recitals and national piano auditions.

In 1952, she enrolled at Texas Lutheran College in a pre-nursing program and in 1954 transferred to the University of Texas School of Nursing at Galveston where she received a B.S. in Nursing.  While at Texas Lutheran, she met her future husband, Ayres Cermin.  Jo Ann and Ayres were married on June 29, 1957 in San Antonio.  The couple lived in Midland, Andrews, and Austin until Ayres entered the University of Texas School of Medicine at Galveston.  She worked as a registered nurse at John Sealy Hospital during their time in Galveston.

In 1971, Jo Ann, Ayres, and their four children, moved to Cisco where Ayres had a family medicine practice, and Jo Ann worked as his office manager.  While in Cisco the Cermins rehabilitated a turn-of-the-century two-story house and life revolved around the medical practice, school activities, Redeemer Lutheran Church, gardening, and civic organizations.  Jo Ann's civic activities included co-founding the Cisco Folklife Festival, serving on the board to rewrite Cisco's City Charter, helping spearhead a drive for a downtown historical area, and serving as a director of the Conrad N. Hilton Memorial Park and Community Center also known as Hilton's first hotel.

The Cermins moved to San Antonio in 1990, and Jo Ann retired.  She kept quite busy with active participation in the San Antonio Founder Lions Club, the Alamo Couriers Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), the Blue Bonnet Garden Club, the San Antonio Garden Society, and the San Antonio Botanical Society.  When Ayres was not working, they enjoyed traveling to visit their friends and family, as well as taking a cruise here or there.

College Station became home in 2000 when Ayres accepted a position at Texas A&M University's Student Health Center.  Jo Ann was active in the A&M Garden Club, Bethel Lutheran Church, and A&M Women's Club.  A bonus to living in College Station was the fact that two of her grandchildren lived there also.  Her love of the piano was renewed when she and another pianist performed together on two pianos.

In 2006, Ayres retired, and the couple moved to Wichita Falls.  There she was active in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wichita Falls Founder Lions Club, Rebecca Jane Fischer Chapter of the DRT and enjoyed spending time with family, playing piano, gardening, and creating habitat for wildlife.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband, Ayres Cermin; children: Jeff & Corey Cermin of Dodge City, KS; Jon & Cheryl Cermin of Dresser, WI;  Gretchen & David Fuhrman of Iowa Park, TX; & Greg Cermin of Nocona, TX;  grandchildren:  Justin & Sarah Fuhrman, Amanda & Abrian Gonzales, Jacob Fuhrman, Cameron & Andrea Cermin, Kaycey Cermin, Hayley & Garrett Marxen, and Jeremy & Becca Cermin; great-grandchildren:  Claire Fuhrman, David J. Fuhrman
