Joe J. Cuba, age 102, passed away on January 9, 2022 in Wichita Falls. The Graveside Rite of Committal will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Joe, one of twelve children was born March 2, 1919 to John and Rosie (Darilek) Cuba in Megargel, Texas. He married Leonida Michna on August 3, 1943 in Fort Worth, Texas. Joe proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II on Guam Island. Upon his return, Joe owned and operated the Firestone Tire Store in Seymour, Texas for 20 years. After moving to Wichita Falls he worked for Sears until his retirement in 1984. Joe loved being outdoors and spent many hours working in his huge one acre garden. Joe was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Joe was a member of the greatest generation. A small request for 100 birthday cards on his 100 ^th birthday blossomed into a worldwide and nationally recognized event. 90,000 cards arrived from all over the world and from every continent except Antarctica. Joe was also on the 40 ^th Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where he along with other veterans put their signatures on a truck on display in the Smithsonian Museum. In addition, he was also honored by Sheppard AFB where his name is now placed on a B-17 airplane stationed on base. Along with his family many local dignitaries came by to wish Joe a Happy 100 ^th Birthday.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Leonida; three sisters and a brother.

He is survived by his three children, Beverly Cuba; Lee Cuba and wife Patty and Elaine Cuba; three sisters, Fran Quinlin, Mary Musil and Georgia Hall; four brothers, Stan, Johnnie, Jim and Henry Cuba; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family would like to thank the staff's from Brookdale Midwestern, at 918 Midwestern Parkway, Assisted Living and Best Care for all the love and kindness shown to Joe over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff of Hospice of Wichita Falls for all their kindness provided to the family.
