John Perry Brooks of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Wichita Falls. Services were held June 12, 2025, at Edgemere Church of Christ with Minister Scott Franks officiating. John was laid to rest at the Masonic Cemetery in Seymour, Texas.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed Attorney, John lived a life of integrity, service, and faith, leaving a lasting legacy in the hearts of those he served and loved.

John was born on April 2, 1940, in Childress, Texas, to the late Claude and Lois Webb Brooks. He had one brother, Jerry Brooks. John earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Abilene Christian University and later received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston School of Law. In addition to being a licensed Attorney, he was also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

While attending Abilene Christian University, John met the love of his life, Margie Malone Brooks, of Seymour, Texas. After graduating, John began his career with the accounting firm of Borden Duffle, CPA, in Abilene. In 1968, John and Margie relocated to Seymour, where he established his own CPA Practice. They raised two sons, Kevin Lynn Brooks and Jeffrey Robert Brooks. During his time in Seymour, John developed strong ties to the community and was actively involved in the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, Industrial Foundation, and served as President of the Chamber of Commerce.

A few years later, John decided to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming an Attorney. He sold his accounting practice and moved his family to Houston to attend law school at the University of Houston.

Following his graduation from law school, John began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Harris County District Attorney's Office in Houston, Texas. While first there, he served in the Special Crimes Division, where he handled high profile cases -including one that resulted in the arrest and conviction of a District Judge on bribery charges.

In 1977, John, Margie, and their boys moved to Wichita Falls, where he practiced law for nearly five decades. In the early years in Wichita Falls, John also served as an Adjunct Professor at Midwestern State University, sharing his knowledge in Business Law and Federal Income Tax, drawing on his dual expertise as both an Attorney and licensed CPA.

John was a pillar of the community and a faithful member of the Edgemere Church of Christ. For several years, he volunteered with Christ Prison Ministries, serving as a teacher at the Allred Prison Unit in Wichita Falls. He also served as a longtime Bible Class teacher and was honored to serve as an Elder within his Church.

John was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Brooks; his parents, Claude and Lois Brooks; his in-laws, Walter and Barbara Malone, of Seymour, Texas; and his brother-in-law and best friend, Robert Malone. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Margie, and their son, Kevin. John is also survived by Jeffrey's wife, Trenna Danaher Brooks, of Frisco, Texas; three grandchildren, Jonathan Malone Brooks and his wife, Destiny, of Wichita Falls, Jameson Hunter Brooks and his wife, Lindsey, of Seymour, and Annabel Brooks, of Austin, Texas; as well as three great-grandchildren, Rhyder, Liam and Baylee. John is also survived by Terry Englishbee, his paralegal for the past 44 years. Together, John and Terry worked as a well-oiled team. John often said, "If I didn't have Terry, I would just have to close down the office."

John loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the Family Farm, walking among his cows and three donkeys, but most of all, enjoying the company of his beloved dog, Molly.

The family has been overwhelmed by the amount of thoughts, prayers, and support from John's many friends, colleagues, and associates, and they offer their heartfelt thanks and praise to God.
