John W. Gilleland, 80, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at United Regional Health Care Center.

A Christian wake and vigil, followed by a visitation, will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13 ^th in Lunn's Chapel. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 14 ^th at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Alex Ambrose officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

A son of the late Tacoma Ann (Poirot) and Roy Lee Gilleland, John was born on December 13, 1941, in Wichita Falls. Johnny attended the Academy of Mary Immaculate and Wichita Falls Senior High School, graduating in 1960.  He attended Midwestern University. Johnny was a brick mason belonging to the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union for over 50 years.  He took pride in the many buildings he worked on in Wichita Falls, Sheppard Air Force Base and Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, as well as many surrounding towns.

John was a faithful member in his church, Our Lady Queen of Peace, and served as a Greeter and a member of the Chalice Family.  He also served on the IBEW Local 681 Credit Union Board, was a facilitator of the Apprenticeship Committee for BAC Local #4 and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.  He was active in his children's activities, served as a Little League Coach, and participated in Indian Guides with both sons.  He loved meeting with friends especially his breakfast group and the Tuesday and Friday night groups.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his brother James Raymond Gilleland; his in-laws, Henry Anderson, Dorothy Anderson and Owanah Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Terry Anderson Gilleland; sons John Todd Gilleland and his wife Gail of Arlington, Texas; and Shawn Michael Gilleland of Conroe, Texas; his grandson, Shawn Clayton Gilleland and wife Paola of Dallas, Texas; his granddaughter, Carsen Lynn Gilleland of Longmont, Colorado; his brother, Roy Edward Gilleland and wife Connie of Nocona, TX; and his sister Patsy Richardson of Walnut Cove, NC.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Hank Anderson and wife Nancy of Wichita Falls, and his sister-in-law Carol Anderson Harwell and husband Richard of Georgetown, Texas. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Johnny had a deep faith and love of his Lord, instilled in him by his grandmother and his mother. Loving, patient and gracious, he was the solid foundation of his family and friends and will be remembered by many.
