John Thomas Spyra, 82, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

A rosary will be held from 6:00 until 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 6th at Lunn's Colonial followed by a visitation from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 7th at Our Lady Queen of Peace with the Rev. Kyle Walterscheid officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

The son of the late Chester G. and Catherine L. (Hickey) Spyra, John was born on June 12, 1941, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Along with his parents, John was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Kathy (McLean) Spyra in 2021.  Also, brothers Edward C., Michael G. and sister Catherine T. Spyra.

John left Western Pennsylvania after high school for military Service at Shepherd AFB He spent 8 years in the Air Force and settled in Wichita Falls for the next 60 years.  His service to the community included as a member of the Lions Club, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Wichita County Mounted Patrol, Boy Scouts, and Catholic Charities as well as his Church.

John retired as the business manager of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in 2011 at the completion and dedication of the new Church building.  Traveling the United States with his family was a joy for him.  Even he could not tell you all the places he visited but always had a good story.

He is survived by daughter, Helen M. Spyra; grandson, Justin M. Oliver; sister, Mary K. (Christopher) Raynak; and sister-in-law Rebecca Missman Spyra; nephews, David and  Christopher Spyra, Sean and Ryan Raynak; and niece, Teresa Spyra; along with numerous cousins.
