Johnny Shanks, born September 6, 1937, in Quanah, Texas, to John and Elsie Shanks, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, surrounded by love and treasured memories.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Janaury 29th at Lunn's. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 30th in Lunn's Chapel. Private burial will immediately follow in Bowie, Texas, under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Johnny proudly served in the National Guard and later built a successful career in the retail grocery business, managing numerous stores between Wichita Falls and the DFW area. He retired in 2010 from United Market Street, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

Known to all as a jokester with a quick wit, Johnny could light up any room with laughter. He was an avid Texas Rangers fan, a regular in his weekly bowling league at Falls Bowl, and a lover of the cool mountain air in Red River, New Mexico, where he enjoyed trout fishing. Above all, Johnny treasured time spent with his grandchildren, rarely missing their sporting events.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Shanks; his brother Roy; and his sisters Madge and Bernice. He is survived by his son, Clint Shanks (Leslie); and his daughter, Dana Buchanan (Phillip). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Michael Shanks (Alicia), Amanda Young (Ben), TJ Steidl (Mandy), and Ashley Brookshire (TJ), as well as his great-grandchildren: Bryson, Eli, Isiah, Bella, Jaxen, and Moriah; and former wife of 24 years and mother of his children, Treva Spradley (Larry).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or Texoma Christian Care Center - Alzheimer's and Dementia Care, organizations close to Johnny's heart.

Johnny Shanks will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his humor, kindness, and love for life.
