Judith Sharon (Thorp) Pipes, 80, passed away in her home at The House of Hope, December 8, 2023.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Edgemere Church of Christ. A private family burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls.

Visitation will be held at 6:00 pm Friday December 15, 2023 at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Judy was born December 21, 1942, in Wichita Falls, Texas, the daughter of Dennis Nolan and Gladys LaRue (Matney) Thorp. She attended Midwestern State University, graduating in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in music and education and followed with a master's degree in administrative education. She married Thomas Dubose Pipes on December 28, 1963 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Judy was the principal at Fain Elementary School for nearly 20 years. She then served as a member of the Wichita Christian School Board for many years. Prior to that, she was principal at Alamo Elementary; a teacher at Wichita Christian School, Alamo Elementary, Sheppard Elementary, and Ben Franklin Elementary; and a librarian at Lamar Elementary. She also was a longtime Bible school teacher and served in many other ministries at the Edgemere Church of Christ.

During her junior year in high school, Judy began playing viola in the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra and played with the symphony for 50 years, never missing a season, despite surviving two bouts of breast cancer. She was a member of the Wichita Falls Chamber Orchestra for many years and served on the Wichita Falls Symphony League board. She volunteered with the Wichita Falls Youth Orchestra.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Andy Thorp, and her husband Tommy.

Judy is survived by her sister, Jane Fiore and husband Mike of Wichita Falls; her children, Chris Pipes and wife Karen of Wichita Falls and Dennis Pipes and husband Jason Bryant of Eugene, Oregon; her sister-in-law, Sue Ann Pipes of Fort Worth; her grandchildren, Allee Jones and husband Trevor of Oklahoma City, Logan Pipes and wife Delaney of Wichita Falls, and Riley Pipes of Wichita Falls; her great-granddaughters, Charlotte Grace and Miller Marie Pipes, and Sophie Jane Jones; as well as numerous other family and friends.
