Lillian Lynell McCoy, 85, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Wichita Falls on February 6, 2022 surrounded by family.  She was born in Newcastle, Texas, on October 18, 1936, to Jim and Delpha (Big Momma) Wages.

Lillian was born Lynell Wages, and it is rumored that Big Momma was frustrated not only with Lynell's shenanigans, but also the lack of middle name to yell out while disciplining her. So they decided together, she should be called Lillian Lynell.

She was also given the nickname lightening, or Auntie Lit, by her siblings and their families.  No, she wasn't given that name because she did anything lightening fast.  Just the opposite, I'm afraid. She was never in any hurry. This was painfully evident to her son and granddaughters who were charged with escorting her to Sam's and Walmart, where "Lightening" would slowly tiptoe through the entire store and touch all the things.

Lillian married Floyd B. McCoy, Jr. on November 3, 1964, and they built a beautiful life.  Together, they enjoyed traveling, gambling, gardening, and watching the Dallas Cowboys while enjoying a cold beer.  Later in life, Lillian replaced Coors with a box of Franzia.  It apparently paired better with her Eve Amethyst 120s.

Lillian retired as an RN from the North Texas State Hospital where she provided over 30 years of selfless service, compassion,  and questionable nursing judgment. (Don't be mad, Granny, I read your journals, and it wasn't your fault.) After retirement, she continued working part time for Presbyterian Manor and At Home Care for several years.

Lillian was a stubborn gal.  She did what she wanted, when she wanted, on her own terms.  Up until a few months before her passing, she was climbing on to the mower keeping her five acres looking as good as she could, despite family protests.  We will forever be grateful for the mower battery that was "on back order".

Lillian went by several names, but Granny was the one that fit her best.  She was loving, kind, nurturing, sarcastic and snarky all at the same time. She hosted large family Easter gatherings, took the grandkids fishing, and taught them gardening.  She also taught her granddaughter how to mix a killer martini when she was nine.  Granny was all about balance.

She faithfully attended her great grandkids' games and concerts, almost always being the crazy lady who yelled their names at inappropriate times.  There was never any question who their biggest fan was.  Their teammates, friends, and teachers all called her Granny.  She was Granny to all, and all adored her.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, and her brothers and sisters: Charles, Clifford, James, Margie, Francis, and Mary Ellen. Her children: Jim Roberts, Skip McCoy, Doug McCoy, and Stephenia Taylor.

She is survived by her son, Sean McCoy, and her honorary daughter, Dana Roberts; her daughter-in-law, Pam McCoy.  Her grandchildren: Angie McCoy, Danny McCoy, Jennifer Brite, Susan Worrell, Michelle Smith, and Melanie Gustanski. Lillian had 16 great-grandchildren but was especially close to Jonathan Presto, Hadley McCoy and Jackson Kohl. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved and adored her, but particularly Sonny Rux and Leann Davis.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 14th from 6:00-7:00 pm at Lunn's. Services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 15th at 1:00 p.m. with interment immediately following at Crestview Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
