Lloyd L "Bill" English, 98, passed away on November 28, 2020 in Longview, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday December 5 ^th at Crestview Cemetery with Rev. Rod Payne officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Lloyd Laurence English was born July 20, 1922, to Joseph Willis English and Anna McGaffey English in Elkins, West Virginia. Lloyd L. (Bill) English and Beth were married July 5, 1944, in Frederick, Oklahoma. They had two sons Larry P. English and Dr. Richard D. English.

Lloyd L. "Bill" English was a freshman at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Shortly afterward, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Reserve program. He graduated as a 2 ^nd Lieutenant single engine pilot in May, 1944. After transition in P-40's at Peterson Field, Colorado Springs, he was assigned 21 ^st Fighter Group as a Mustang fighter pilot.  His first mission was on April 7th when 150 fighter planes escorted B-29's on a bombing raid over Tokyo. These were the first land-based fighter planes over Japan. His 10 ^th and last mission was the day before the first atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, which led to the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945.

Bill re-enrolled in college, and after graduating he was employed by Dunn and Bradstreet as a credit reporter. In 1950 his unit was called to active duty for 21 months. He became a Psychological Warfare officer and served until January 1952. His assignments included a tour with the Voice of America in New York City. He worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. as Credit Manager at San Angelo, Texas, until he was called as Business Administrator of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls where he worked for 22 years, retiring in 1985.

Following retirement, he was business manager of Presbyterian Manor, for three years and later served for three years as accountant for the for the Wichita Archer-Clay Baptist Association. He was an ordained minister and was very active in the First Baptist Church.

Bill was a member of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association of Texas, where he served on the host committee. He was also a Coordinator of the Military History Collection, which is now part of the Museum of North Texas History.

Bill is survived by his two daughters-in-law Diane English of Orlando, Florida and Ana English of Longview, Texas; eight grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
