Lou Murdock, former Wichita County Tax Assessor/Collector from (2001 - 2012), passed away April 4, 2023, in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of 86.  Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. The memorial service is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7 at First Christian Church, with Dr. Mark Bender officiating.

Lou was born in Wichita Falls to Rayworth and Dorothy Huff on August 24, 1936.  On June 12, 1954, Lou married the love of her life, Tommy Murdock, who predeceased her in 2012.  Lou and Tommy had three sons, Glen, Larry and Mike.  For the first 12 years of their marriage Lou stayed at home to care for her children.  She started work as a florist, moved on to Patterson Automotive Group and later took an entry level job with the Wichita County Tax Assessor/Collector's Office.  When the incumbent Tax Assessor/Collector decided not to seek re-election, several people encouraged Lou to run for office despite her lack of political experience, influential connections or funding.  She won both the primary and the general election despite opposition from the local political elite and the local media.  She was elected by the multitude of people from all walks of life who knew and loved her.

After retirement Lou continued her work with Meals on Wheels, Lions Club and as a board member of Postel Family Credit Union.  She was also an active lifelong member of the Christian Church.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Terry Huff and many of her dear friends.

She is survived by her three sons, Glen Murdock and wife Stephanie of Spring, Texas, Larry Murdock of Wichita Falls, and Mike Murdock and wife Karen of Wichita Falls. Lou also leaves behind six grandchildren, Dale Murdock and wife Ashley, Amy Borders and husband Jonathan, Michelle Murdock, Delaney Murdock, Jack Murdock and Ryan Murdock.  She also had four great-grandchildren, Brayden Murdock, Aubrey Murdock, Reid Borders and Graham Borders.  Lou is also survived by her brother, Joe Huff of Wichita Falls.
