Margaret Jane Flowers Duffie

Margaret 'Jane' Flowers Duffie was born on August 19, 1931, and passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Jane was the third child of Mr. & Mrs. Alton R. Flowers.

Jane was born in Fort Worth and spent her early years in Colleyville, Texas before moving to Vernon where she graduated high school prior to attending North Texas State University (now UNT) , obtaining her teaching degree. While attending Vernon High School, she met her future husband, Tommie Carlton Duffie, who also gradua t ed from Vernon High School, and then Texas A&M University.

Tommie and Jane were married on December 28, 1951, in Vernon. Within days of their wedding, Tommie was deployed to Korea, where he served in the Army for 18 months while Jane was a teacher in Fort Worth. Upon Tommie's return from Korea, they moved to Graham, then Chillicothe, then Vernon, and then Wichita Falls. They had three sons; Andy, Doug, and Kelly, whom all graduated from Vernon High School and Texas A&M University.

Jane taught hundreds of students over her 17-year teaching career and maintained strong relationships with many of them for decades. She also taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was an active member of Baptist churches throughout her life, including FBC Wichita Falls.

After Tommie died in 1993, Jane lived in Wichita Falls and more recently moved to Presbyterian Manor in 2016 where she enjoyed connecting with new friends as well as long-time friends. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Jane's "Angel," Jackie Schreiber, for providing Jane with so much assistance as her mobility decreased.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tommie, her son, Andy, sister, Helen Flowers Pigg, and brother, OA Flowers. She is survived by her sister, Alta 'Dap' Birdsong, sons Doug (Cheryll) and Kelly (Leslie), daughter-in-law Connie Osborne Duffie, as well as grandchildren Andrea Duffie, Ryan Duffie (Summer), Laura Duffie, Hope Duffie, Shannon Duffie, and Sean Duffie and three great-grandchildren Kate, Cole, and Reese Duffie.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 27, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Lunn's Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas. A funeral service celebrating Jane's life will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Lunn's Colonial Chapel in Wichita Falls followed by interment at Wilbarger Memorial Park in Vernon. The service will be held on what would have been Tommie and Jane's 71 ^st wedding anniversary.
