Mary Leona Horton passed away on November 13, 2024, at the age of 95.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 12:30 until service time on Monday, November 18th at First United Methodist Church, 909 Tenth Street, Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Goodrich officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemont Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Mary Leona was born on July 26, 1929, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Charles and Hazel Kilpatrick. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School and Texas State Teachers College (now Texas Women's University). She was married to her loving husband, Dewey Horton for 71 years, and had a successful career as a special education and home bound teacher in the Wichita Falls Independent School District.

Mary Leona and Dewey loved spending their summers in Colorado in their motor home along with their many friends.  She was a member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church where she served as director of children's programs for many years. She was also active in the North Texas Food Pantry.  Mary Leona's quick wit and sharp sense of humor will be missed by all who were privileged to know her.

She is survived by her daughter Terri Shrode and her husband Danny of Austin, and son Ray Horton of Wichita Falls. She is also survived by her brother, Bill Kilpatrick and wife Margaret of Cambridge, VT; grandchildren Carly Toca and husband Brent of Harahan, LA; Michael Shrode of Dallas and Emily Horton of Wichita Falls; great-granddaughter June Toca; brother-in law, Charles Horton; nephews Jeffery Horton of Fairhope, AL; Jim Kilpatrick of Pennsylvania; and Scott Kilpatrick and Clint Kilpatrick of Vermont.
