Mary Lou McBroom passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2026 in Wichita Falls, Texas. 

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13th at Lunn's. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14th at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Goodrich and Rev. Aaron Logan officiating. A reception will follow in the Prothro Family Atrium. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Born December 7, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Lou was the daughter of George William and Berta (Herter) Kendrick. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas and attended Southern Methodist University before earning her BA from University of Texas at Austin in 1951. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity and featured in the UT 1950 yearbook as a “Bluebonnet Belle.” She married her college sweetheart, Robert L. (Bob) McBroom, December 26, 1950 and enjoyed 63 blessed years together until his passing in 2013.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and took pride in her four sons. She was proud to be “Grandmooh” to her 7 grand-children and 9 great grand-children.

Mary Lou was a long-time member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church until its recent closing. There, she served in many capacities: Board of Stewards, Board of Trustees, “Clean-up Camps” supervisor (following the April 1979 tornado), Food Pantry, Latch Key program and, for 40 years, Sunday School teacher for elementary age children. Mary Lou loved to serve her community. She was a member of the Junior League of Wichita Falls and enjoyed her many service placements especially Art lectures for WFISD and Teen Teacher at WF State Hospital. She was Sustainer of Merit in 1980. She was also Den Mother for her sons’ Cub Scouts, Home Room Mother for her sons’ classes at Fain Elementary. From 1962-1966, she coordinated the Easter Seals Drive for Fain School District to benefit North Texas Rehabilitation Center, her favorite Charity. In addition to friends made through her community service activities, she greatly valued the friendships made with neighbors-past and present, Church family, Unity and Cotillion Clubs, Kappa Alumnae, Petroleum Wives, Book Club, and DAR.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert McBroom Sr., Her Parents, brothers Bill and John Kendrick, and her son William (Bill) McBroom.

She is survived by sons Robert L. McBroom, Jr. (Bridgette) Iredell, TX, John Patrick (Rick) McBroom (Nancy) Corpus Christi, TX, Ben Richard McBroom (Lynn) Ft. Worth, TX, Daughter-in- Law Elizabeth McBroom (Bill) Wichita Falls and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

Surviving Grandchildren are Courtney McBroom, Los Angeles, CA, Emily McBroom, Houston, TX, Victoria Branyon, Austin, TX, John McBroom (Courtland) Ft. Worth, TX, Mary Ann Vaeth (Jimmy), Houston, TX, Robert Stephen McBroom, Ft. Worth, TX and Patrick William McBroom, Ft. Worth, TX. Surviving Great-Grand Children are Grace McBroom of Mint Hill, SC, Mary Louella (Lou) and William Scott Branyon of Austin, TX, Clementine and Adelaide McBroom of Ft. Worth Texas, and Julia, James Post, Thomas Kendrick, and Mary Louella (Ella) Vaeth of Houston, TX.

Mary Lou is especially grateful for all the loving help from family over the last few years especially from daughters-in-law Elizabeth, Nancy, Lynn, and Bridgette for all their help.
