Max Leland Macon, 85, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10th at Lunn's. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11 ^th at Edgemere Church of Christ with Scott Franks officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

The only child of the late Berta Brown Macon and E. Mead Macon, Max was born on July 5, 1937, in Fannin County near Bailey, Texas. Max graduated from Lubbock High School in 1955, where he sang in the choir with Buddy Holly. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959. Max met Carolyn at Pioneer Park Church of Christ in Lubbock, TX while they were members in the youth group. They were married on June 10, 1960 in Lubbock. After living briefly in Abilene and Amarillo, they moved to Wichita Falls which has been their home since 1966.

Max faithfully attended and worshiped at Edgemere Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 20 years. Prior to becoming a shepherd, he was a deacon, song leader, taught Bible class and was Edgemere's relief coordinator following the 1979 tornado. He was employed by Humphrey Printing for over 30 years before retiring at age 73.

Max loved watching his grandchildren's sporting events and was a devoted fan of the Red Raiders, Cowboys, Mavericks and Texas Rangers. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, effortless sense of humor, love of music, singing, joyful worship and gentle spirit.

Max was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Macon; daughter Melanie Macon of Ralls, TX, son Chris Macon and wife Paula of Fairview, TX, daughter Alison Crittenden and husband Michael of Wichita Falls, granddaughters Jessica Bumpus and husband J'Lee of McKinney, TX, Nicole Keirsey and husband Devin of Lubbock, TX, grandsons Christopher Macon of San Francisco, CA, Jonathan Macon of The Colony, TX, Nicolas Crittenden and Noah Crittenden of Lubbock, TX, and five great-grandchildren.
