Ramona James Daniel went to be with her Savior Thursday, June 1, 2023, after a brief illness.  She was born June 4, 1928, in Butler, Oklahoma, to E.S. James and Opal Clark James at her grandmother's home in Butler.  She was then taken to Liberal, Kansas, where her father was the pastor of First Baptist Church for two years. After that, the family moved to Cisco, Texas, and then to Vernon, Texas, because of his being called to serve as pastor in each place.  Ramona graduated from Vernon High School and then Baylor University.

The next day after graduation, Ramona and her college roommate came to Wichita Falls to work at the First Baptist Church where she became secretary to Dr. J. H.  Landes, and later bookkeeper and later as organist for the church. Her roommate became educational secretary.  They worked there until Ramona found that God had other plans for her life.  Leroy Daniel, a lifetime member of the church, had been a widower for four years, thus a very eligible gentleman.  After a very brief courtship (five or six dates) Leroy and Ramona were married December 8, 1950.  Despite doubts by some friends, the marriage lasted 62 years until his death January 11, 2013.  They gave God the credit for putting them together and blessing them beyond measure with a large family as they tried to serve Him all those years.  As the children matured, the parents were able to travel extensively, seeing fifty states and a large part of the world, often driving thousands of miles.

When Leroy bought Luby's Cafeteria, Ramona became the bookkeeper while raising four children and teaching Sunday School most of 65 years to various age groups.  She was also President of the W.M.U. at First Baptist and a member of several committees there.  Additionally, she served The Texas Baptist Convention, being on the Executive Board two terms and the Administrative Board for six years.  Leroy also served on several Boards and they received the Sam Houston Award for those who have contributed significantly to Baptist life and their community as laypersons in civic and business life. They both were recognized as Elder Statesmen by Texas Baptists in 2012.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Jo Ann James, and a brother, Bill James.  Survivors are a sister, Shirley Young of Dallas, and four children—Donna Daniel Lanier of Abilene, William Daniel (Cecille) of Wichita Falls, Kip Daniel (Suzan) of Dallas, and Andrea Daniel Freeman (Russell, deceased) of Midland.  Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren scattered over the U.S.A.

A graveside service with family and friends will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Crestview Cemetery, with Dr. Bob McCartney officiating.  Visitation with the family will be held immediately after the service at Wichita Falls Country Club.  In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to the Impact Offering for Missions at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
