Ronnie Lee Awtry, 86, of Wichita Falls, passed away on June 29, 2021.

A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 7th, at First Baptist Church  of Wichita Falls (East Sanctuary) with Pastor Bob McCartney officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday July 6 ^th from 6-7 PM, at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

A son of the late Frank Awtry and Viola Crayton, Ronnie was born on October 10, 1934, in Electra, Texas. The family moved to Wichita Falls when he was a young child, and he lived most of his life in the city he truly loved. He worked tirelessly to better the community, serving in many capacities of various organizations. Ronnie served as Chairman of the Oil Bowl for 23 years. He brought Make-a-Wish to Wichita Falls and facilitated granting 25 wishes. He served in the BCI for 6 years and was a senior member of the Mavericks.

He served on the board of several other organizations and events through the years, including the Pioneer Bowl (6 years, including Chairman), Health Board (6 years), Wichita Falls Country Club Fall-Out Golf Tournament (10 years, including Chairman), Traffic Commission and MSU committee to bring the Dallas Cowboys training camp to the city. One of his most memorable accomplishments was founding and chairing a charity golf tournament for 19 years for the local chapter of the Association for Retarded Citizens. In his later years he also loved serving as an usher/greeter at First Baptist Church.

Ronnie had a true servants heart and a larger than life personality. He loved his family, and he really loved people in general. He was happiest when helping others.

Ronnie was preceded in death by father Frank Awtry, mother Viola McDonald, wife Geraldine Awtry, siblings Virginia and Crayton.  Ronnie is survived by his daughter Traci White, sons John and Greg Awtry, brother Jimmy Awtry, grandchildren Greg White, Brooke Awtry and Kelsey Awtry.
