Samuel "Sammy" Rivers was born on June 17, 1963, in Wichita Falls to the Rev. Daniel G. and Asmer (Alvarez) Rivers.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Lunn's Colonial Chapel with Reverend Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Interment is to follow the service at Crestview Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on August 5th 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Lunn's Colonial.

Sammy was awarded his Certificate of High School Equivalency in April 1982, while living in Graham, Texas. Afterward, he became a Nurse Aide at Graham Oaks Care Center while attending nursing school at Ranger College. Sammy graduated from nursing school in 1989, as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Sammy was a geriatric nurse whose larger-than-life personality and deep devotion to his patients endeared him to all who knew him.

For 32 years, Sammy dedicated his career to caring for the elderly, working tirelessly to ensure his patients received the best possible care and lived their final years with dignity and comfort. His compassion, kindness, and genuine concern for their wellbeing touched the lives of hundreds of patients and their families. Sammy was a passionate advocate for the elderly.

Sammy had a way of making every single one of his patients feel special. He wasn't just their nurse, he was their friend, their confidant, and, in many cases, their family. His patients adored him, and he adored them right back.

Known for his boisterous personality that could fill a room, Sammy was a larger-than-life figure with a heart to match. He greeted everyone with a warm smile, a firm handshake, and an infectious enthusiasm that was impossible to ignore. His coworkers marveled at his endless energy and ability to lift the spirits of even the most down-and-out patients.

Sammy had this unique gift of making you feel like the most important person in the world. He was so giving, so caring, and so protective of the people he loved. He had an enormous heart, and he poured that heart into everything he did. He was a listening ear and always made time to help others.

Sammy was a loyal friend, devoted family member, a loving son, and a partner. He brought fun and adventure to the lives of those around him. From going thrifting, to the casino, to concerts, dancing, or just hanging out and cooking and enjoying time with friends and family, Sammy celebrated life and the adventures along the way and brought his friends and family to share with him.

In life, we loved you dearly, In death, we love you still, In our hearts, you hold a place, That no one could ever fill.

Survivors include his partner of 40 years, Pedro Cadena of Grand Prairie; mother Asmer (Alvarez) Rivers; brothers, Tomas Lopez and wife Linda, David Rivers and wife Anita, Eli Rivers and wife Grace; and various nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Samuel was preceded in death by his father Daniel G. Rivers and brother Daniel Rivers Jr.

Pallbearers will be Tomas Lopez, Eli Rivers, David Rivers, Nathan Castillo, David Moran, and Justin Yauger.
