Shannon David Young passed March 30, 2026, surrounded by many loved ones.

Family and friends will gather to honor his life Saturday, April 11th, 1:00 p.m. at Lunn's Funeral Home located at 2812 Midwestern Parkway, Wichita Falls, TX 76308. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Shannon was the middle child of O.Henry Young Sr. and Dixie Cloud Young.  Born in Abilene, Texas, but he grew up in Roby, Texas, until the family moved to Abilene in 1955.  Even though Shannon had a "girl's" name, O.Henry and Dixie raised three boys.  Shannon is survived by his older brother O.Henry (Mike) Young, Jr. of Abilene and younger brother Patrick Cloud Young of Ft. Worth.  As youngsters, all three were a handful.  Many hilarious stories and fortunately, everyone survived.

Shannon is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lana Thomas Young. Together they share five children: Bryan (Brad) David Young of Benbrook, Mark Shannon Young (wife Bonne) of Weatherford, Marissa Young Rainey (husband Charles) of Plano, Missy Huff (husband Bert) of Wichita Falls and Chelle McDonald of Dallas; eight grandchildren: Bradley Shawn Young (wife Emily), Matthew Carson Young (wife Chelsea), Preston Gregory Young, Samantha Lynn Young, Brady Shannon Young, Ava Christene Young, Claire Huff Morse (husband Michael) and Holly Huff Smith (husband Alex); plus four great-grandchildren: Ashlynn, Keller, Allie and George.

Shannon graduated from Abilene High School and attended Texas Tech University.  His interest at that time was animals and agriculture.  He worked at the Feed Lot in Lubbock and was married to Mary Helen Bradbury of Abilene, their first of three children, Brad was born in Lubbock.

Moving to Abilene he tried selling insurance in his father's business and real estate.  The timing was bad, and he moved on to work for McAlister Trucking Company in Abilene for several years.  In the mid to late 70's he was able to purchase Oil Field Trucking Service.  Brad, Mark and Marissa all had their first "real" jobs there at 10, 12 and 14!  Shannon instilling his work ethic on to his children early.  The 80's brought an oil bust and with it the end of that business.  Shannon moved to Possum Kingdom Lake for a while doing different jobs.  There he met Lana.

Before marrying Lana, Shannon went on worldly adventures to Indonesia, Singapore, Abu Dhabi and more working for A-1 Bit and Tool with a long-time friend Frank Aycock.  He even managed to coax Lana to join him for a week or so in Singapore.  No small feat.  His love for Lana brought him to Wichita Falls where he started a highway construction company specializing in culverts.  In 2015 he went to work for WS Construction, where he really enjoyed the people.   The job involved many long drives, but he loved the land and enjoyed the flat open road and landscape.  In 2022 he left this job.  The Lord had something else in mind for him.  Shannon began caring for Lana at home as her health declined.   His love and dedication to her was apparent to all.

First and foremost, Shannon was a wonderful father and grandfather (Dado).  He treasured his time with his family.  He was a kind, thoughtful, funny, loving, charming character with a sneaky sense of humor.  A cowboy at heart, he loved to drive all over Texas exploring old barns and farmhouses.  He loved people, books, collecting books and pocketknives and his faithful dogs.

He lived by three words.  Patience, Compassion, Perseverance.  A true servant of the Lord.  A gift to everyone he touched and will be greatly missed.
