Susan King died on September 1, 2024, after a brief illness. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas, with Rev. Zack Landis officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville, Iowa. A visitation will be held at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home immediately following the celebration of Susan's life.

Susan was born on August 25, 1941, in Estherville, Iowa. She attended college at the University of Iowa in Iowa City where she met James Richard King, the love of her life. Dick and Susan were married on November 28, 1964 in her hometown of Estherville, Iowa.

In the late summer of 1968 Susan and Dick moved to Wichita Falls. Dr. King joined the faculty of the History Department of Midwestern State University where he taught for 46 years. Susan worked as a preschool teacher at the School for Little People at First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls. Later Susan worked as an administrative professional at Wichita Falls High School, MHMR, and the Wichita Falls Campus of the North Texas State Hospital.

Susan enjoyed tennis, gardening, and playing bridge. She was a homebody but she loved traveling, especially to various casinos. Susan was devoted to her family and friends, and she maintained close ties with three of her friends for 80 years. Susan was a huge fan of the basketball teams at MSU—Texas, and she looked forward to every season.

Susan was preceded in death by James Richard King, her husband of 49 years; her parents Ruth and Jack White; her sister Ruth Ann White; and her brothers John Lindsay White and James Thomas White. Susan is survived by her son Greg King and his wife Maggie of Wichita Falls; her daughter Sara and her husband Brian Tork of Geneva, Illinois; her grandson David Tork and his wife Hanna Hudepohl of Maplewood, Minnesota; her granddaughter Rachel Tork and her partner Ryan Berg of Lafayette, Indiana; her granddaughter Mary Tork, a senior at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces.
