Thomas Michael Fitzgerald, 81, of Mesquite, formerly of Wichita Falls, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Sunnyvale Baylor Scott & White Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4th at Lunn's Chapel with Mr. Brian Bass officiating. Interment with military honors will be at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 7th at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Mike, as he was called by his middle name, was born on January 3, 1945, in Salem, Illinois, to Thomas and Hertha (Brown) Fitzgerald. They lived in Illinois until Mike was 11 years old and then moved to Washington, Indiana. Upon his graduation from Washington High School, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

While stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Mike met the love of his life, Barbara Jennings. He was then sent to Vietnam. Upon returning, he and Barbara were married in her home town, Throckmorton, Texas, on February 18, 1967-a marriage that lasted 59 years.  They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Stacie and a son, Jason Michael.

Mike received his Bachelor in Business Degree from Midwestern State University in 1971. He was a partner in Builders Supply Company with Bill McClellan, and then later in partnership with Karl, Scott and Mary Sorge for many years. Mike loved his work in the construction industry. He and his family were members of the Church of Christ.

Along with his parents, Mike was also preceded in death by his sister, Dian Waldron of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Fitzgerald of Mesquite; his daughter, Stacie Shaw and husband, Christopher of Forney, TX; his son, Jason Michael Fitzgerald and wife, Jessica of The Colony, TX; two wonderful grandchildren, Evan Michael Roberts and Elaina Fitzgerald; brothers, Barney Fitzgerald of Wichita Falls and David Fitzgerald of Evansville, IN.
