Vollie Doris Spainhour Baber, age 90, died in Wichita Falls May 27, 2024. Funeral services will be held Friday May 31, 2024 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home with Ken Holsberry and Larry Suttle officiating. Private burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

Vollie is the only daughter and fourth child of Foster Leroy and Mary Myrtle Belcher Spainhour's five children. She was born July 29, 1933, in Wichita Falls, Texas. With exception of a short period when her family lived in Sunset, Texas, she lived all her life in Wichita Falls. She married Theron Albert Baber December 4, 1964, in the Lincoln Street Church of Christ by Floyd J. Spivey.

Vollie graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1951. She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for a number of years advancing to the Assistant Chief Operator position when she and Theron married. She didn't work anymore outside of the home until the children were out of school. She then became her husband's office manager in 1980.

She taught Sunday School at the Tenth & Broad Church of Christ and served as Supervisor of the Pre-School Department for a number of years. She organized the Meals on Wheels of the church and was the organizer of the student lunches at the Church of Christ Student Center at Midwestern State University for several years.

She was a member of the Opti-Mrs. Club of Wichita Falls and served as President 1970-71. She started the club's Nursing Scholarship program at Midwestern State University.

She was a member of the Auxiliary of the American Optometric Association and the Auxiliary of the Texas Optometric Association. Vollie visited her parents daily from the time she married until they passed away in the nursing home. She loved to travel and made eight trips to Europe as well as trips to Canada, Mexico, and Japan with Theron. They also made several cruises and crossed the Atlantic on the QE-2.

Vollie was preceded in death by her husband Theron, her parents, and her brothers, Avner, Thelan, Buford and Duane.

She is survived by son Kevin Baber and wife, Debbie of Wichita Falls and a daughter Karen Carr and husband, Tim of Wichita Falls, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and one due in July, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or a Charity of your choice.
