John was born to Joe and Lurline Creel Little on December 12, 1960 in Wichita Falls. He graduated from Rider High School in 1979 and married Lisa Talley in 1982.

John is remembered by his family and longtime friends as a fighter. As a little kid, he would step in and fight for a friend being picked on. He took this willingness to take up for the underdog into his professional life as he spent 25 years as an investigator for the Wichita County District Attorney’s office. He spent much of his career working on child abuse and murder cases.

John’s efforts earned him recognition. He was awarded the 2004 Chuck Dennis Investigator of the Year Award, the top honor of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, for his work in bringing closure for the families of victims of violent crimes. In 2017, he received the Patsy Baggett Award for his efforts in fighting child abuse.

As the youngest of seven children and lifetime resident of Wichita Falls, John lived a life filled with family and friends. He cherished the time he spent with his sons and daughter at their activities for so many years. He loved coaching his sons in baseball. He tried once, just once, to coach his daughter in basketball. With the addition of grandchildren, his days were beginning to fill again with children’s programs and sports. He and his wife, Lisa, took many memory-making trips with their friends. His summers were spent enjoying the good fishing and good friends at Lake Kemp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tommy Little, his sister-in-law, Phyllis Little, brother-in-law, Jim Brown and father-in-law, Don Talley.
