Jennie V. Morgan passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019. She was 100 years old. A life long resident of Wichita Falls, she was born in Sherman, Texas, to Gertrude Malone and George Lawler. She was married to J. Howard Morgan for more than 77 years. Jennie V. is preceded in death by her husband, J. Howard Morgan; her sisters: Jessie Mae Smith and Elizabeth Zimpher, and her only brother, Marvin Lawler.
The daughter of a Baptist preacher, Jennie V. celebrated her faith at Lamar Baptist and in later years at First Baptist. She was the pianist for her Sunday School Department and she also played at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church for many years.
She is survived by her sister: Georgia Masteller; her son, James Howard Morgan, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, from San Antonio; 2 granddaughters and 4 great-grandchildren: Erin Callahan and Patrick and their daughter Rose Claire; and Amy Moody and Ryan and their children, daughter Ella Jane, sons Rhett Jameson and Theodore John. She also has many nieces and nephews as well as grand and great grands.
In 1975 after the fall of Saigon, the Morgans accepted 3 refugees from Vietnam who they met at a Christmas dinner when they volunteered to invite airmen from Shepherd AFB. Giving them their first home in the US, helping them to find jobs, cars and apartments, Tuan Tran and Nghia Tran became lifetime friends to the Morganís. Tuan surprised them with bringing his new bride, Huong, who became very close to Jennie V. The Morganís felt blessed in their relationship and it gave them much joy.
Mrs. Morgan spent most of her final years at Rolling Meadows and moved to Brookdale Community in San Antonio in August of 2018. The Morgan family wishes to thank all the staff who cared for Mrs. Morgan with love and attention. Memorials can be donated to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, TX, 78310.
Visitation will be at Lunnís Funeral Home from 6 to 7 on Friday evening and funeral services will be at Lunnís Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019, with Rev. Rod Payne officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Lunnís Colonial Funeral Home.
