John "Jay" Lester Tucker

John L. “Jay” Tucker passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church in Wichita Falls. Reggie Coe, Senior Adult Pastor, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral home of Wichita Falls. Mr. Tucker will be laid to rest in the Davidson Cemetery in Davidson, Oklahoma.

Jay was born on June 29, 1930, in Davidson, Oklahoma, where he spent his childhood years exploring the Red River, helping his father in the family-owned drugstore, and working in the cotton fields. After graduating from Davidson High School, he attended college at the University of Oklahoma and married his childhood sweetheart, Joann Hall on May 26, 1950. While attending college, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He served in the Intelligence, Infantry, and Artillery branches of the Marines and was a graduate of the Naval War College. Jay served in the Marines for 33 years and retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

After serving in Korea, Jay returned to the University of Oklahoma where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Geological Engineering and his Master of Business Administration Degree. He began a career as a Geological Engineer with Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He moved his family to Wichita Falls, Texas, and began his banking career with City National Bank. He remained in banking until 1987 and began serving as Executive Vice President and Energy Management Consultant for Energy Education, Inc. Jay spent some of his most rewarding professional years at Energy Education. He retired in 2007 at the age of 77.

Jay was a member of Grace Church for over forty years and had an unwavering faith in the Lord. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie and Lester Tucker; his wife of 65 years, Joann; a brother, James Wayne Tucker; and an infant son.

Survivors include his children, Jayne Tucker Gregg and husband, Ted; Scott Tucker and wife, Betsy; grandchildren, Dr. Ross Lynds and wife, Erin of Fort Worth; Julia Lynds of Dallas; Lauren Ballard and husband, Ryan of Edmond, Oklahoma; John Tucker and wife, Tiffany of Wichita Falls; and Katherine Powell and husband, Garrett of Corpus Christi; great-grandchildren, Robin, Jay, and Callum Lynds of Ft. Worth; and Graham and Nora Ballard of Edmond, Oklahoma. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Betty Hall of Annapolis, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
