William Thomas Bill York

William Thomas Bill York, 78, joined his father, mother, two brothers and sister in Gods Kingdom April 8, 2011. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed greatly.


Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, April 11, 2011 in the Chapel of Lunns Colonial Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry York officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 PM, Monday, April 11, 2011, at Rest Land Cemetery in Olney, TX with Pastor Scotte Clark officiating. Interment is under the ion of Lunns Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.


Bill was born August 26, 1932 in Navarro County, outside of Purdon, Texas, to the late Joseph M and Ruth Alta Easley York. He graduated from Olney High School in 1951 and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jane Bains on June 9, 1952. Bill served nine years in the Texas National Guard and reached the rank of Master Sergeant.


Bill was employed by The Texas Pipeline Company for 39 years and two months, beginning in 1953 in Archer City, Texas until his retirement in 1992. He served the company in Archer City, Olney, Wichita Falls and Graham, Texas. He also worked offshore pipeline projects out of Houma, Louisiana and off the coast of California. His work with Texaco was his lifes passion. So much so, that his wife Barbara told him when he was cut or scratched, that he bled little Texaco Stars.


He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 1158 in Wichita Falls, Texas since December 27,1968, a Charter Member of the Fort Worth Scottish Rite since August 24, 1974 and a member of the Maskat Shrine since August 24, 1974.


He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers J.W. York, Richard Allen York, and sister Cora Faye York Robinson.


Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Barbara of Wichita Falls, Texas, his son William T. Bill York, Jr. of Wichita Falls, Texas and daughter Robin Elizabeth Carruthers, and her husband William. One surviving brother, Jerry York and wife Patsy of Canton, TX. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Carey Carruthers Petkoff and her husband Jared, Kristen York Gore and her husband Chad and Kathryn Elizabeth York, grandsons, William Blake Carruthers and Thomas York Carruthers. Also surviving are two greatgrandsons, Brayden Matthew Gore and William Greyson Petkoff.


The family will be at their home, in Wichita Falls, Texas.


The family requests that memorials be made to the Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
