Stanley L. Mowrey passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011. He was a man who loved people, his family and the Lord well. He was known for his generosity and high level of integrity. A service celebrating his life will be held at First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls on Monday, April 18th, at 10 a.m., with Dr. Bob McCartney officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the ion of Lunns Colonial Funeral Home.


Stan was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on December 4, 1928 to L. D. and Ethel Mowrey. Other than when he served in the Navy, he lived all of his life in Wichita Falls. Stan graduated in 1947 from Wichita Falls High School.


1952 was a busy year for Stan. He graduated from Midwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology in May. Graduation was soon followed with joining the United States Navy. He reached the rank of Lieutenant JG and was stationed in Norfolk, VA and at the Pentagon during his service to our country. In addition, he was a member of the admirals tennis team. On December 21st, he married Patsy Roberts.


After his time in the Navy, Stan became an independent operator and producer in the oil and gas industry, and he was a former member of the Geological Society. He continued to work in that field until his death. He was an avid supporter of Midwestern State University sports, where he was a member of the M Club. Additionally, he loved and was a long time member of First Baptist Church. Stan served his church as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher.


Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Mowrey. He is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Dan Mary Mowrey and David and Barbara Mowrey of Wichita Falls. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, John Mowrey of Denton, Sara Walker and husband Paul, Michael Mowrey, Elizabeth Mowrey, Craig Rachel, Benton Mowrey, and Karlee Mowrey, all of Wichita Falls two greatgrandchildren, Cade and Adele Walker brotherinlaw and sisterinlaw, Weldon and Nancy Roberts of Wichita Falls and their children Bryan Roberts of Houston and Matt Roberts of Wichita Falls.


ation will be held from 2 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17th, at Lunns Colonial Funeral Home. Memorials for Mr. Mowrey may be made to First Baptist Churchs Church at Sheppard or youth ministry.
