Ira D. Wingo, 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday night, April 22, 2011 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Lamar Baptist Church, with Dr. Mike Roberson officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Cemetery, under the ion of Lunns Colonial Funeral Home.

The family will hold a visitation at the funeral home from 6:007:00 PM, Monday, April 25, 2011.

Ira was born on September 20, 1925, to Charles Ira and Susie Ella Bills Wingo in Roby, Texas. On July 17, 1942, he married Susan Ruby Anderson. He served his country as a member of the Greatest Generation in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from his own business of 45 years in construction. His other lifes work was his church. He and his wife were members of Lamar Baptist Church for 43 years. For more than 30 years, he was a Deacon and he loved working with the preschool children at the church. For seven years running, he participated in medical mission trips to help provide eye checks and glasses for the under privileged in Mexico. He also worked with a boys group from Bethany Baptist Church in Breckenridge, Texas where he was in the restaurant business and where they lived prior to moving back to Wichita Falls. Most of his life he had a passion for wood work and occasionally liked to go fishing. Ira also loved all kinds of music. Probably his happiest times were spent with his family. He would often tell his wife Sue, We have the greatest children. And likewise, his children say Ira was a great father.

Ira was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Sue, his three children, Nancy Ridley and her husband Victor of Wichita Falls, Texas, Gary D. Wingo of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Dennis Ira Wingo and his wife Belinda of Wichita Falls. He is also survived by one sister Lougenia Spencer and her husband, Jimmy of Gainesville, Texas. Ira also leaves behind seven grandchildren including Scott R. Tolbert and wife Denise of Jarrell, Texas, Staci Tolbert of Wichita Falls, Texas, Gary D. Wingo, II of Greeley, Colorado, Charlsy Sissy Garalei Wingo of Littleton, Colorado, Courtney Branch, and husband Trent of Wichita Falls, Texas, Trey Ross and wife Dally of Dallas, Texas, Dakota Wingo of Wichita Falls, Texas. Ira is also survived by seven greatgrandchildren including, Tanna Tolbert, Jesse Bell, Ethan Tolbert, Nicole Tolbert, Alex Wingo, Gary D. Wingo, III, Savannah Wingo and Presley Branch.. Ira also leaves behind two greatgreat grandchildren, Izabel Cochrum and Kannon Konarsky. Ira also had seven granddogs.
